Synopsis
European equity market futures point to a slightly positive open. Asian equities trading lower Wednesday. Hang Seng continues its recent retreat with index down ~4% week-to-date. Mainland China equities pulling lower. Australia, Korea, and Taiwan equities also experiencing declines. S&P 500 futures flat afterhours.
On today's agenda: EU's von der Leyen speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conf, hosted jointly by the United Kingdom and Ukraine and EU's Timmermans and Borrell participate in the High-level event 'A Transatlantic Conversation: Climate and Security - The New Nexus'. After questions on Northern Ireland, there's weekly PMQs at 12noon BST, then Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill continues its passage, and there's Opposition half day debate (topic tbc), Committee topics include rail services and infrastructure, defence equipment and support as well as innovations and technology that are capable of improving cancer outcomes. Ifo releases latest economic forecast and European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) May new passenger car registrations are out. Second day of three of Marine Money Week, speakers include execs from Maersk, TORM, d'Amico International Shipping.
In central banks, ECB's Isabel Schnabel, Bundesbank's Nagel panellist at 15:45CET at event hosted by the Economic Advisory Council. Slovak Central Bank's Kazimir press conf at 10:00CET in connection with new economic forecasts.
Macro data releases out today include, UK May CPI/RPI/PPI output/input, public sector net borrowing, Jun industrial trends orders - CBI, and Sweden May unemployment rate.
On the corporate front, Gecina (GFC.FP) reported €1B of sales YTD, all of the sales secured this year have achieved a premium versus the latest appraisal values, with an average premium of around +10%. Still in France, Alan Allman Associates (AAA.FP) raised its 2025 revenue target to €550M vs prior guidance €480M. In Sweden, Assa Abloy (ASSA.B.SS) reported a one-off non-cash costs of SEK 2.2B in Q2 in its Global Technologies Division, primarily related to the Citizen ID business. These one-off costs are attributable to impairment of goodwill and other intangible assets.
In M&A, Bloomberg reported that ENI (ENI.IM) is nearing deal to acquire Neptune Energy for ~$5B (€4.58B). People familiar with the matter say that Eni beat out suitors including TotalEnergies for Neptune, and could announce a deal as early as this week. In Germany, Lufthansa (LHA.GR) signed an agreement with SEB Kort Bank AB of Stockholm for the sale of Lufthansa AirPlus Servicekarten GmbH for around €450M. The transaction is expected to have a positive effect on the Lufthansa Group's operating margin (Adjusted EBIT) and, also given the capital-intensive business model of AirPlus, its return on capital employed (Adjusted ROCE).
