Synopsis
European equity markets set to open higher in what is expected to be another quiet session ahead of the year-end. Santa rally continues in anticipation of central bank interest rate cuts next year. Dollar index at fresh five month lows.
Yesterday, major European indices saw marginal gains with FTSE 100 +0.36%, DAX +0.21%, CAC40 +0.04% to 7573.10, STOXX 600 +0.21%. So far in the month of December, the Stoxx Europe 600 is up ~3.7%, taking the YTD gain to ~12.7%
US equities finished higher in uneventful Wednesday trading. Followed a higher finish on Tuesday, with S&P now sitting just below its Jan-22 record close. Asian equities trading mostly higher Thursday. Japan an exception as it falls on a stronger yen.
Reuters reports oil prices steadied on Thursday after falling sharply in the previous session, as concerns eased about shipping disruptions along the Red Sea route even as tensions in the Middle East continued to rise.
Macro data releases out today include Spain Nov retail sales, Sweden Nov trade balance.
