Synopsis
European equity markets are set to open lower amidst mixed trading in Asia Monday. Japan trading higher while South Korea and New Zealand tracking moderate losses. Activity light elsewhere in the region with mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan closed for the Dragon Boat Festival, while Australia offline for the King's Birthday. US contracts lacking direction following mild losses in Friday's main session.
EU Parliament election took place on Sun (9th) (current seat projection). Far-right top polls in EU election in Germany, France, Austria with Ifop estimating France's Le Pen's National Rally party won 32% support, well ahead of the Renaissance party with 15% whilst German Chancellor Scholz's Social Democrats suffered their worst defeat, falling behind opposition conservatives and far-right Alternative. Italian Prime Minister Meloni's Brothers of Italy's party also projected to beat left-wing Democratic Party.
French President Macron called a snap election (first since 1997) with the Renaissance party facing a defeat to the far-right in the European Parliament elections Sunday, in a trend enveloping much of the region.
