    • European indices extended their morning losses, ending near the session's lows. US futures also recording sizeable losses. In central bank news, comments from ECB officials are a bit more cautious, with Schnabel, Nagel and Lagarde suggesting more modest rate cuts are likely. Note, some inflation updates and growth surprised on the upside on Wednesday. UK press evaluates yesterday's budget, which saw biggest tax increase since 1993, a ramp up in spending and higher borrowing. Has seen fluctuation in BoE rate outlook. Fueled some concerns over debt outlook. In the UK, after delivering an expansionary budget, which will increase spending by £70B next year, there are thoughts Chancellor's Reeves budget could result in a shallower BoE rate cut cycle. Biggest revenue-raising measure was an increase in employers' national insurance contributions, which is worth £25B

    • In macro-news, German retail sales for September showed positive growth across various metrics. Real (price-adjusted) sales increased by 1.2% m/m, while nominal (not price-adjusted) sales rose by 0.6%. Retail sales up 3.8% y/y in real terms versus 1.2% expected, while nominal sales up 3.9% y/y

    • Amidst a busy earnings calendar, in the banking sector, BNP Paribas, Societe Generale, ING Groep, Erste Group Bank, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, CaixaBank Banco de Sabadell and Danske Bank issued their Q3 reports before the open

    • Other notable earnings include TotalEnergies, Shell Plc, Maersk, STMicroelectronics, Prysmian, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Haleon, Ubisoft Entertainment, Geberit and Stabilus among several others, whilst Carlsberg, Stellantis and Smith & Nephew posted trading updates. Of note, Repsol (REP.SM) recorded the largest intraday move in almost a month, after beating Q3 adj income estimates as well as reports that Spain may cancel its windfall tax. Spain's governing Socialist party PSOE reached agreement with PNV and Junts in parliament to extend windfall tax on banks for three more years, but plans for similar levy on energy firms will be shelved

    • In M&A news, Siemens confirmed the acquisition of Altair Engineering for $113/sh cash representing an equity value of ~$10.6B

    • Looking ahead to tomorrow's calendars, Brunel International (BRNL.NA), Kalmar Corp. (KALMAR.FH), Scatec (SCATC.NO), Aker Horizons (AKH.NO), Aker BioMarine (AKBM.NO), Trifork Group (TRIFOR.DC) and Piraeus Financial Holdings (TPEIR.GA) will be posting their earnings, whilst Fugro (FUR.NA), ForFarmers (FFARM.NA) and Remedy Entertainment (REMEDY.FH) report trading updates.
