Synopsis:
Asia equities set to open mixed Wednesday. Futures in Japan traded higher, though contrasted with declines in Hong Kong and Australia. US contracts somewhat firmer after a mixed cash session, though Nasdaq and S&P 500 reached fresh highs. Tech leads also mixed with Big Tech mostly higher, but SOX down 0.38%. All Japan ADRs advanced, while Nasdaq Golden Dragon China index rose 1.16%. US Treasuries were mostly weaker with some curve steepening. Dollar index down 0.1%. Gold finished up 0.4%. Bitcoin futures down 0.2%. WTI crude settled up 2.7%, ending just off best levels.
Political turbulence attracting most of the attention amid an impending French no confidence vote and South Korea's reversal of a martial law decree. December rate cut odds continue to rise following dovish-leaning Fedspeak this week, though given Fed's data dependence, market continues to wait for upcoming releases, particularly NFP on Friday.
Regional focus on BOK emergency meeting. Officials to discuss measures to stabilize economy and markets. Finance Minister and BOK Governor Rhee met earlier and pledged to provide unlimited market liquidity if required. South Korea President Yoon under intense scrutiny amid thoughts he will face impeachment. Macro calendar fairly light, featuring Australia Q3 GDP and China Caixin services PMI.
