Synopsis:
Asian markets set for mixed start to Monday trade. Futures signaling small opening gain in Japan while Hang Seng futures lower. ASX weaker in initial trade. S&P 500 futures flat after capping off modest weekly decline. Australian and New Zealand bonds mirroring latest weakness in Treasuries. FX markets steady following recent dollar strength. Crude seeing small loss after rallying 6% last week. Gold a touch lower. Bitcoin rallying above $100K.
China November activity data forecast to show unchanged industrial production growth and slight pickup in retail sales and fixed asset investment growth, reinforcing economic stabilization narrative following Beijing's stimulus pivot. Property metrics another focus after private data showed renewed contraction in new home sales last month. Attention already shifting to 2025 after authorities announced looser policy stance with aim of reviving domestic demand.
PBOC official on Saturday flagged further interest and RRR cuts next year, bolstering efforts to loosen financial conditions for real economy. Last week authorities also foreshadowed higher deficit ratio with government to issue more ultra-long bonds. Comes after November credit data again underwhelmed with new loans little changed and outstanding loan growth declining by more than forecast. Both M2 and M1 growth money also fell noticeably.
South Korea parliament impeached President Yoon in cross-party vote on Saturday, paving way for PM Han Duck-soo to become acting president. Still a bit to play out with Constitutional Court to rule on impeachment within 180 days. However, also thoughts impeachment removes some of the political uncertainty overhanging markets. Financial authorities, including BOK, also made another pledge to maintain market stability.
