    • European equity markets ended in positive territory. Follows two consecutive gains, including a strong rally on Wednesday. In sectors, autos, tech and constructions the best performers while banks and telco main laggards.

    • Markets consolidating in Europe after recent gains. More signs of US-China tariff de-escalation after reports noted White House considering cutting China tariffs by more than 50%. Follows Trump's remarks day earlier flagging substantial tariff reduction. Situation remains fluid with Treasury Secretary Bessent saying tariffs would not fall unilaterally and that trade deal could take 2-3 years.

    • Meanwhile, the German government downgraded its economic growth forecast to zero citing the impact of US trade policies. On macro calendar, German Ifo business climate index beat expectations, French consumer confidence held steady while UK April CBI Industrial Trends Orders miss.

    • Amidst busy earnings calendar; of note, Sanofi reports Q1 EPS ahead of expectations and confirmed 2025 guidance; BNP Q1 net income was mostly in line with forecasts; Air Liquide Q1 revenues beat and gave a positive update; Orange Q1 earnings met consensus and confirmed targets for 2025; Roche Q1 revenue beat amid a 6% increase in group sales due to high demand for new medicines and diagnostic solutions; Nokia Q1 EPS a bit light of consensus, though confirmed guidance; Unilever Q1 trading update saw revenue miss, but underlying sales growth ahead of consensus and it reconfirmed outlook. Other earning reports included UPM-Kymmene. Anglo American, Inchcape. Metso.

    • In M&A news,Tarkett Participation increased offer price to €17 from €16 in its public buy-out offer of Tarkett.

    • Looking ahead to tomorrow's EU econ-calendar, notable releases will include, amongst others, UK Mar retail sales, Apr consumer confidence - Gfk and France Apr business confidence.
