StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures +0.29%, Hang Seng Futures +0.25%, ASX SPI 200 +0.30%, S&P Futures +0.06%

Jun 09 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for positive start to Tuesday trade. Futures signaling mild opening gains in Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. S&P 500 futures flat following quiet Monday session. Australian yield curve bear steepening after Treasuries were broadly firmer overnight. FX markets steady with dollar little changed against majors. Crude unchanged after settling 1% higher. Gold flat. Bitcoin extending rally back towards record high.

    • Nothing substantive emerged from US-China talks in London on Monday. Representatives to resume negotiations on Tuesday with export controls a central focus of discussions. US officials described Monday's talks as fruitful with Trump saying he has received good reports. NEC Director Hassett said he anticipates deal where US eases export controls and China releases rare earths in volume. Resumption of talks being seen as a market positive following recent ramp in tensions and alarm among automakers about shortage of rare earths magnets.

    • Bond supply in focus with Treasury 3Y auction on Tuesday followed by 10Y and 30Y sales over coming days. Upward pressure on long-term rates a function of Trump 2.0 policy uncertainty and deficit concerns, coupled with spillover effects from backup in superlong JGB yields. On latter, attention is on next week BOJ's meeting and future of tapering program with former BOJ executive Eiji Maeda anticipating move to slow pace of reductions. Attention also on MOF's meeting with primary dealers on 20-Jun amid speculation of tweak to long-end issuance and buybacks.
