Synopsis
European equity markets set to open lower, whilst Asian equities mixed Tuesday. Japan, Korea and Taiwan outperforming while Greater China and Australia little changed S&P 500 futures easing afterhours.
With Iran and Israel trading attacks for a fifth day, President Trump cut short his G7 attendance to return to Washington after warning on Truth Social for people to evacuate Tehran. US officials later stressed no intention to get involved offensively. At same time, press sources noted consideration being given to deployment of bunker buster bombs as White House eyes fresh diplomatic push this week. Follows earlier reports highlighting Tehran's interest in in resuming diplomacy.
In trade news, Trump and UK PM Starmer signed agreement finalizing trade pact. Canada and US aiming to strike trade deal within a month though differences over tariffs remain following talks between Trump and PM Carney.
On today's agenda, IEA oil market report and EU Environment Council meeting. Norway's PM Støre biannual summary press conf at 11:00CET. Ministry of energy Aasland at the Langskip project launch event (the largest climate initiative in Norway and Europe's first complete value chain for carbon management) and minister for climate and environment Eriksen hosts input meeting on the EU's climate quota system for companies for the period after 2030. In UK, parliamentary committee topics include reforming the water sector at 10:00BST, Spending Review 10:15 and UK-EU reset 15:30. Also on Tue, FT event Energy Transition Summit: East Med & Southeast Europe (through Wed), speakers include Greece's PM Mitsotakis, Cyprus' President Christodoulides, UK's Minister for Climate, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero McCarthy. Institute for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE) event at 11:30CET title 'Impact of climate change on sectors of the Greek economy'.
In central banks, BOE's Kroszner speech at 9:45BST at event hosted by FIA's International Derivatives Expo (through Wed). Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori (OPGE) conf (through Thu), Bank of Portugal's Centeno speaks at 17:45CET. Bank of France's Villeroy interview at 16:05BST at FT's Global Borrowers and Bond Investors Forum. Bundesbank publishes its latest monthly report at 12noon CET and Köhler-Geib panellist at 18:00 at event hosted by SAFE, House of Finance.
In corporate news, Bakkafrost (BAKKA.NO) released a presentation ahead of its 2025 CMD guiding 2030 total harvest volume of 162K HOG. Also in Norway, REC Silicon (RECSI.NO) announced the extension of a $50M facility loan and provided an update on its financial position. In France, Aeroport de Paris (ADP.FP) issued total Paris Aeroport April traffic figures, whilst in Austria, Flughafen Wien (FLU.AV) reported May group traffic numbers.
