Synopsis:
European equity markets closed lower and off best levels. Follows broad strength on Thursday with STOXX 600 at two-week high. FTSE 100 hit new record high. Basic Resources, Health Care and Travel&Leisure were the best performing sectors. Personal Goods, Real Estate and Technology lagged.
Sentiment remains positive. European markets on track for second consecutive weekly gain. No change in market narrative. Fed rate cut expectations still elevated despite hotter PPI data. Earnings remain supportive. European corporate updates have been cautiously optimistic. Macro picture relatively benign in euro area. Signs of stabilization in growth and inflation close to ECB target. Not much new on trade/tariffs though White House adviser Navarro said pharma tariffs to likely be covered by Section 232. Attention also turning to Trump-Putin summit.

In other news, analysis by consulting firm EY found revenues of largest listed German firms fell by total of nearly 2% in Q2 and profits fell 3.3% due to impact of tariffs. UK tax data showing London bearing the brunt of job's slowdown. Study showed UK business dialing back hiring for jobs likely to be affected by rollout of artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, one of the UK's largest property agents Savills warned inheritance tax fears are damaging house sales.
