  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for negative start to Tuesday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. S&P 500 futures steady after US indexes ended lower in quiet Monday trade. Australian bond yields up slightly following earlier Treasury curve bear flattening. FX markets quiet after dollar rebounded against majors. Crude fluctuating near overnight highs while gold pulling lower alongside copper. Bitcoin retreated to lowest since early July.

    • Little in way of leads following uneventful US session. Focus remained on dovish remarks from Fed Chair Powell on Friday though Monday's bond yield backup prompted thoughts market reading too much into Powell with latest Fedspeak highlighting some cautiousness about a near-term rate cut. Market also in waiting mode ahead of NVDA 's earnings Wednesday. Across Asia, RBA minutes to provide some color on board's deliberations behind this month's rate cut. ASX and China earnings season rolls on with PDD's results characterized by ongoing competitive pressures.

    • President Trump and South Korean President Lee met at White House on Monday though nothing noteworthy emerged. Trump said he rebuffed South Korean effort to amend trade deal while two sides talked up shipbuilding cooperation and Korean Air (003490.KS) confirmed BA aircraft order. In other trade developments, Trump warned could impose 200% tariffs on China if they stop shipping rare earths magnets, coming after China magnet exports to US hit six-month high in July. Some trade focus has also shifted to furniture after Trump flagged tariffs late last week.
