  • Synopsis:

    • European indices ended mostly mixed to higher. France and Spain buck the firmer trend. Construct&mtls, Insurance and media stocks outperform while Food&Bev and Health Care the main laggards.

    • No change in broader market sentiment. Markets continue to consolidate in Europe. Hawkish repricing of Fed pivot expectations and stretched positioning among the higher-profile overhangs. US headline and core January PCE price inflation came in right in line with expectations, with m/m rising slightly (and following January CPI) while y/y measures ticked down a bit. Initial and continuing jobless claims printed a bit higher than consensus. Focus turns to Eurozone CPI on Friday. No change in ECB rhetoric. Germany's Nagel pointed to importance of wage data for policy outlook. Reuter sources said ECB looking at more flexible framework for interbank lending and liquidity.

    • In European macro updates, German state inflation data eases on annual basis due to base effects; French CPI at lowest level since September 2021. Q4 GDP revised up to 0.1% q/q versus prior 0.0%. Other releases due include weaker-than-expected German retail sales and unemployment worse than forecast. LLoyds business barometer shows dip in UK confidence but firms plan to increase hiring.

    • A busy day for earnings updates; out of DACHs, Nordex (NDX1.GR), Kion Group (KGX.GR), Covestro (1COV.GR), Beiersdorf (BEI.GR), Adecco Group (ADEN.SW), Emmi (EMMB.SW), Andritz (ANDR.AV) and Erste Group Bank (EBS.AV) reported Q4/FY earnings. On the M&A front, Shell's (SHEL.LN) US solar business Savion reportedly puts a quarter of its assets up for sale.
