  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for mixed start to Friday trade. Nikkei futures pointing to gains on the open while ASX futures lower and Hang Seng futures little changed. Nasdaq futures rallying afterhours with big tech rallying post-earnings. Australian and New Zealand bonds under pressure following Treasury curve bear flattening. Dollar index pulled back following US GDP miss. Yen holding near 34-year low. Crude finished higher after reversing earlier weakness. Gold remains range bound.

    • BOJ not expected to make policy changes today with rate hike forecasts continuing to center around October. Yen's fall to 34-year low has heightened interest in discussions around potential impact on trend inflation. Governor Ueda's press conference another focal point after he noted possibility of rate hikes if yen weakness impacts price outlook. BOJ will also update economic forecasts with Nikkei preview noting first FY26 core inflation forecast expected to be ~2%.

    • Big US tech firms reported results in post-market trade. MSFT +5% afterhours following top and bottom line beat as AI demand drove software and cloud revenue beat. GOOGL +12% afterhours with AI driving cloud revenue growth. Cost control efforts, first dividend announcement and share repurchase were also highlighted. INTC (8%) afterhours with Q2 sales guidance underwhelming expectations.
