  • Synopsis:

    • European equity markets closed mostly lower giving up earlier gains. Norway +1% was the outlier on the upside and with Italy +0.3% and Denmark +0.4% led outperformers. On the downside, Sweden (1.0%), Spain (0.7%) and Finland (0.6%) led underperformers.

    • Central bank narrative in focus. Latest ECB minutes for the 11-12 September meeting highlighted inflation is expected to decline towards the 2% target in the H2'25, but it is too early to declare victory against inflation. Despite recent faster-than-expected inflation declines, the ECB cautioned against easing policy restrictions prematurely due to risks of delays in reaching the target. The Eurozone's economy faces potential headwinds, with falling export orders and weak manufacturing output, signalling weakening foreign demand.
