Synopsis:
Asian markets set for negative start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan and Hong Kong. ASX lower in initial trade. US contracts gaining afterhours with TSLA +12%. Australian bonds under pressure following latest Treasury yield backup. FX markets steady as yen nears three-month low against dollar. Crude edging up from overnight lows while gold flat after retreating from record high. Bitcoin flat after pulling back from $70K.
In macro news, BOJ Governor Ueda said while large uncertainty warranted moving cautiously and gradually on rates, moving too slowly could lead to build-up of speculative positions. Comes as latest Bloomberg survey showed narrow majority of economists anticipate December rate hike. Elsewhere, RBNZ Governor Orr flagged measured approach to rate cuts amid persistent inflation.
On Asia macro front, South Korea Q3 GDP growth slowed by more than expected amid surprise drag from exports. Asia flash PMIs out later today. Earnings another focus with TSLA rallying afterhours after earnings topped expectations with company also projecting slight increase in deliveries. However, IBM lower after revenue underwhelmed. SK Hynix delivered bottom-line beat.
