Synopsis:
Asian markets set for mixed start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan and Hong Kong while ASX higher in initial trade. US contracts flat afterhours following initial choppiness on NVDA's earnings. Australian and New Zealand bond yields reversing higher, tracking earlier Treasury weakness following soft 20Y auction. Dollar regained ground with yen and yuan both weaker. Crude coming off overnight lows while gold flat. Bitcoin unchanged after claiming new record high.
NVDA delivered top and bottom line beat in Q3 though Q4 guidance fell bit short of most bullish forecasts, which tied back to high bar dynamic highlighted in sell-side earnings previews. Noted Blackwell production ramp in full swing with shipping to begin in Q4 and demand looking very strong. Stock down 1% afterhours after partially clawing back initial drop.
Big company news overnight was Adani Chair Gautam Ambani indicted in US over $250M in alleged bribes to Indian government officials in order to secure energy contracts worth billions. Development renews scrutiny on Adani following its long tussle with short seller Hindenburg over research report claiming accounting fraud and market manipulation. Stock down 3% year-to-date, underperforming Nifty 500's 13% gain.
Fairly quiet on economic calendar with BOJ Governor Ueda and RBA Governor Bullock scheduled to remark later Thursday. Friday brings flash PMIs and Japan core CPI. Activity picks up next week with official China PMIs, FOMC minutes, Tokyo core CPI and flurry of Japan activity data, RBNZ and BOK policy decisions, Australia CPI and Governor Bullock on tap.
