Synopsis
European equity markets are set to open higher in very quiet session. Asian equities trading mostly higher Tuesday. Hong Kong stocks at a one-week high with mainland China stocks also gaining. Small gains for Australia, Taiwan, India and Singapore. South Korea's Kospi a few points lower, Nikkei down but Topix flat. Southeast Asia mixed. US and European futures a little lower. US dollar flat, no significant movement in Asia forex. Treasury yields in a tight band. Crude oil, precious metals and industrial metals all finding support. Cryptocurrencies lower again.
Of note, markets closed in Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland (for Christmas Eve) and closing early Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and UK. European markets closed for Christmas tomorrow.
In political developments, French Prime Minister François Bayrou unveiled a new government on Monday evening. This includes a mix of newcomers and holdovers from the administration of his predecessor, Michel Barnier, with mostly centrist and conservative ministers in key roles. The new government will face challenges such as passing a budget and navigating a fractured French legislature with no clear majority (Politico).
In macroeconomic updates, Netherlands final Q3 GDP came in line with preliminary readings.
No earnings scheduled for today. On M&A front, ADLER Group (ADJ.GR) announces agreement to sell its North Rhine-Westphalia-based portfolio. L'oreal (OR.FP) acquires Migros' Gowoonsesang Cosmetics in South Korea. Masdar completes the acquisition of a 49.99% stake in EGPE Solar for ~€850M.
