Synopsis
European equity markets set to open broadly lower. Note US equities finished lower in Monday trading, though ended well off worst levels. S&P and Nasdaq each logged their second consecutive 1%+ down day. Big tech was mostly lower. Asia equities trading lower Tuesday. China official PMIs showed manufacturing activity slightly softer than expected, though non-manufacturing beat notably on broadly based pickup in services and construction, latter reflecting front-loading ahead of Lunar New Year.
European markets that are open today but with early closes include UK, Ireland, France, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain.
Note that a number of markets closed in the region due to New Year's Eve; these include Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland
