    • European equity markets indicated to open higher amidst Asian equities strengthening Tuesday. Japan outperforming with banks rallying alongside yields. Hang Seng leading China market gains with tech rebounding. Australia and Korea seeing milder gains. Taiwan falling further into bear market with semis extending selloff. S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures up 1-2% afterhours.

    • Trump repeated he is open to negotiations though unclear to what extent. Politico sources noted Trump told allies tariff end game is coming after warning from Treasury Secretary Bessent about continued market meltdown. Publicly, Trump and Trade Adviser Navarro maintaining hardline stance on other countries' trade imbalances with US and their non-tariff trade barriers. Fits White House pattern of mixed messages on trade clouding prospect of de-escalation, particularly with Trump again voicing desire to rebalance trade and bring in additional revenue.

    • US-China trade tensions continue to ratchet higher after Trump threatened additional 50% tariffs unless Beijing removes its retaliatory 34% levies. Focus now on China's policy response with press flagging accelerated stimulus rollout. Hopes for negotiations fading rapidly after Trump warned US will cut off future talks unless Beijing backs down. However, China responded by vowing to 'fight until end.'

    • On today's agenda, in the UK, there's MPs questions at 11:30BST on Treasury topics (Chancellor Reeves), whilst PM Starmer is before the Commons Liaison Committee at 14:30. Elsewhere, summit between Greek PM Mitsotakis and Turkish President Erdogan whilst President of Iceland Tomasdottir state visit to Norway (through Thu). Portugal general election tv debates on SIC at 21:00CET (Santos (PS) x Mortágua (BE)) and RTP3 at 22:00 (Ventura (Chega) x Tavares (Livre)). EU Energy Summit 2025 (Mon-Tue), EU's Jørgensen participates. Other events Tue, euroactiv event at 17:30CET title Electricity availability in the EU - Addressing challenges, RUSI event in London at 11:00BST sees Hungary's foreign minister Szijjártó speak on European Security Challenges.
