Weekend press highlighted progress trade talks between US and Asian nations. Treasury Secretary Bessent foreshadowed 'agreement of understanding' with South Korea this week. Second round of US-Japan talks this week with agriculture and autos looming as thorny issues. Continues to be conflicting reports about whether US and China are talking (Bessent and Trump say they are though Beijing denies). Other articles highlighted fallout from US-China trade war with shipments plunging and fanning supply chain disruption fears.
China NDRC, Ministry of Commerce and PBOC to discuss policies aimed at supporting economic growth in Monday press conference. Follows Friday's Politburo meeting, where leaders vowed readiness to respond to external shocks with emergency measures. No new stimulus announcements with readout seen reinforcing patient stance. However, did signal quicker rollout of March NPC measures. Authorities reiterated readiness to boost financing with policies such as rate cuts, though they did not give additional color on timing.

China PMIs expected to show factory activity worsened this month as tariffs went into effect. Australian Q1 CPI will be key input to May's RBA decision with consensus looking for a pickup in trimmed mean inflation. Markets will be monitoring key US data for tariff fallout with Q1 GDP growth forecast to have slowed sharply. Trade talks continue with US-Japan to resume negotiations. US and Japan reporting seasons ramp up. Australian election on Saturday with Labor government favored to win.
