Synopsis:
European equity markets mostly lower, well off worst levels. French CAC underperforms amid resignation of French PM Lecornu less than 24 hours after naming his cabinet. Energy, Technology and Insurance were the best performing sectors, Personal Goods, Banks and Chemicals lagged.
Political developments weighing on sentiment after French PM Lecornu resigned Monday, after naming cabinet on Sunday. 12 out of 18 members of his team unchanged from prior administrations and generated malcontent. Most senior members from the cabinet of ousted premier Bayrou were renamed to their posts. New finance minister Roland Lescure previously ran the industry portfolio.
Press discusses ECB leadership with Eurozone finance ministers to start considering successor to vice president de Guindos, which could shape search for next president with Lagarde's term to end in 2027.
Elsewhere, UK Treasury criticized wasteful spending after fiscal watchdog OBR provided first pre-budget update to Reeves on Friday.

On the reporting front, among notable updates, SEB (SK.FP) now anticipates a slight organic decline in Q3 sales, resulting in results below forecasts, and FY operating results are revised to €550-600M, down from €700-750M. Further out of France, Compagnie de Saint-Gobain (SGO.FP) launches new strategic plan "Lead & Grow". Out of the UK, Mondi (MNDI.LN) shares are lower post Q3 trading update with company noting Q3 remained challenging. Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings (AML.LN) said it no longer expected to meet its previous FY25 wholesale volume guidance given Q3 performance and revised expectation for Q4 wholesales. Further in the auto sector, wires reported that Stellantis (STLAM.IM) is planning $10B in US turnaround investments. Out of DACHs, Redcare Pharmacy (RDC.GR) shares strong in early trading post better-than-expected preliminary Q3 revenue at €719M vs FactSet €715.2M. Hannover Re (HNR1.GR) also trading higher after announcing plans to increase its dividend to around 55% of IFRS Group net income, aiming to maintain and gradually grow dividend levels.
In M&A news, holder Daniel Kretinsky reportedly has agreed to sell his 20% stake in ThyssenKrupp (TKA.GR), paving the way for India's Jindal Steel talks; Euronext (ENX.FP) launcheed an offer for Hellenic Exchanges-Athens Stock Exchange (EXAE.GA) and - still in France - BNP Paribas (BNP.FP) completed the acquisition of HSBC private banking activities in Germany.
