Aug 27 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for negative start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures weighed down NVDA afterhours. Australian bond yields reversing lower following Wednesday upswing on hotter CPI data. Treasuries mixed overnight with curve steepening. Muted FX market price action with dollar flat against other currencies. Crude pulling back from earlier highs while gold flat. Bitcoin fell back to early July lows.

    • Nvidia (NVDA) revenue guidance topped consensus though below more optimistic projections while data center revenue underwhelmed. Blackwell accounted for most of data center sales with group anticipating wider availability in H2. Rubin chips still on track for production next year. Remained bullish on longer-term outlook with potential to capture 35% of $3-4T in projected AI capex over next five years. Group didn't record any China H20 sales during quarter, but flagged $2-5B revenue potential in current quarter if tensions subside and will continue to lobby White House to allow Blackwell sales to China. Group also authorized additional $60B buyback.

    • Central banks headline economic calendar. BOK expected to leave policy changed as policymakers balance tariff-related headwinds against surging home prices. Philippines central bank expected to cut rates by 25 bp with inflation below 2-4% target and tariffs expected to weigh on growth. Japan 2Y bond auction scheduled today with yields hovering near early April highs. On corporate front, Meituan (3690.HK) flagged significant losses in food delivery unit as industry price war drove almost 100% drop in profit and sharp fall in margins.

    • US-India trade tensions remain elevated with reports highlighting growing pressure on Indian exporters from 50% tariffs and calls for government to provide support. WH Trade Adviser Navarro repeated accusation India funding Russia's Ukraine war. Separately, Bloomberg sources noted Mexico to raise China tariffs in bid to placate US and shield against cheap imports. Meanwhile, senior Chinese official expected to visit Washington this week though press sources have been downplaying importance of his visit.
