    • European equity markets set to open mixed to lower as Asian equities also mixed Tuesday. Losses intensifying in mainland China following August rally that spurred bubble discussions. Korea rebounding from Monday's tech-led sell-off. Mild gain in Japan while Australia and Taiwan indexes slightly lower. S&P 500 futures flat before US markets resume trade Tuesday. Bonds weakening with Treasury and JGB curves steepening. Dollar strongest against yen, steady elsewhere. Gold trading at record with silver at 14-year high amid Fed rate cut expectations. Crude firming towards one-week high. Bitcoin rebounding from two-month low.

    • On today's agenda, Chancellor Merz hosts Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter, with joint press conf scheduled in the afternoon and UK parliamentary committee topics include small business strategy at 14:30BST. Norway's PM Støre participates in party leadership debate at 20:00CET on NRK. In political developments, UK PM Starmer yesterday announced a major shake-up of his top team in Downing Street, bringing in officials with economic and Treasury experience ahead of a likely challenging autumn budget (BBC, FT, London Times). Some government figures are interpreting the changes as Starmer wanting to take a big role in discussions in the run-up to the budget.
