  • Synopsis

    • European equity markets are set to open mixed amidts Asian equities also mixed Thursday. Hang Seng underperformance contrasting with rally on mainland China. Japan and Taiwan at fresh record highs amid tech strength. Korea also at all-time high but off best levels. Indonesia extending rebound following early week tensions over finance minister replacement. Banks weighing on ASX. S&P 500 futures flat afterhours. Treasury yields up slightly ahead of CPI data. JGBs flat. Dollar little changed on major crosses going into US CPI. Crude steady near earlier highs while gold a touch lower. Bitcoin near three-week high.

    • In central banks, focus on ECB which is expected to leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 2.0% at 14:15CET, press conf 14:45. The release will be accompanied by the latest ECB staff macroeconomic projections at 15:45. Turkey central bank is expected to lower its benchmark interest rate by (300bps) to 40.0% at 12noon BST.

    • Elsewhere, Czech central bank meeting on financial stability with decision on setting the countercyclical capital buffer rate. ECB's Donnery panellist at 10:30CET at event organised by Business in the Community Ireland. Riksbank's Thedéen speech at 13:00CET on how the operational framework for monetary policy is intended to function in an environment where the Riksbank is now reducing its holdings of securities. Bank of Italy, in collaboration with the Bank of Canada and the BI Norwegian Business School conf on 'Applied Macroeconomics in a Changing World.' Norges Bank publishes its latest Regional network report at 10:00CET

    • Also on Thursday are IEA oil market report and OPEC oil market report. In the UK there are MPs questions on transport at 9:30BST and UK Bus Summit.

    • Macroeconomic updates include: Sweden Aug final CPI, Ireland Aug CPI, Belgium Jul industrial production

    • In corporate news, Seche Environnement (SCHP.FP) released H1 earnings yesterday after the close. In the DACH region, this morning R&S Group Holding (RSGN.SW) posted H1 earnings. Also, Fraport (FRA.GR), Flughafen Wien (FLU.AV) and Flughafen Zuerich (FHZN.SW) reported traffic statistics for August. Out of the Nordics, Puuilo (PUUILO.FH) posted Q2 numbers and updated its strategy and long-term financial targets for the end of the financial year 2030; targets revenue growth >10 % CAGR, above €800M.

    • On M&A front, Iberdrola (IBE.SM) acquires 30.29% stake in Neoenergia from Previ (Caixa de Previdência dos Funcionários do Banco do Brasil) for €1.88B.
