StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures +0.02%, Hang Seng Futures (0.08%), ASX SPI 200 (0.35%), S&P Futures +0.05%

Sep 23 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for muted start to Wednesday trade. Futures signalling flat opens in Japan and Hong Kong, and moderate initial decline in Australia. S&P 500 futures unchanged following Tuesday's tech-led retreat where AMZN and NVDA were notable decliners. Australian bonds firming after Treasury yields reversed lower overnight. FX market price action muted. Crude pushing higher following Trump's hawkish shift in tone on Russia. Gold off earlier highs. Bitcoin steady at two-week low.

    • Micron (MU) guided Q1 revenue above consensus estimates, anticipating continued tightness in memory chip market. Stock steady afterhours after giving up initial gains, though comes after outsized rally earlier this month that follow Citi PT upgrade and expectation of guidance beat. In other tech news, SoftBank (9984.JP), OpenAI and Oracle (ORCL) expand Stargate with new AI data center sites, investing $400B. Elsewhere, Nvidia's (NVDA) plans to invest up to $100B in OpenAI invited scrutiny on "circularity" dynamic.

    • Market processed another busy day of Fedspeak though nothing new in latest comments. Chair Powell largely reiterated post-meeting comments stressing inflation risks remain tilted to upside while labor-market risks tilted to downside. Elsewhere, Fed Governor Bowman followed Miran's dovish comments though Chicago's Goolsbee and Atlanta's Bostic sounded more cautious. Futures continuing to price in ~40 bp of cuts through year-end and additional ~75 bp in 2026, though this is also bringing about concerns market getting ahead of Fed's rate cut projections.
