StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures (1.00%), Hang Seng Futures (0.37%), ASX SPI 200 (0.17%), S&P Futures (0.04%)

Oct 22 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for negative start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan and Hong Kong. ASX lower in initial trade. US contracts flat following tech-led retreat on Wednesday. Australian bonds firming after Treasuries ended little changed overnight. FX markets steady with dollar directionless against majors. Crude extending rally amid latest geopolitical headlines. Gold and silver also firming. Bitcoin unchanged.

    • US-China trade situation remains fluid following reports White House readying announcement on software-related exports to China covering an array of products items as laptops and airlines. Some skepticism whether US will implement such an action given likely economic consequence. Trump also talking up prospects of a deal with Xi at their planned APEC meeting this month, which seems to fit with market expectation two sides will reach some agreement that dials back tensions.

    • Geopolitics driving commodity price action with oil rallying after Treasury Department announced sanctions on Russia's two largest oil producers, Rosneft and Lukoil. Follows on from earlier reports US lifted restrictions on Ukraine's use of Western long-range missiles against Russia. Geopolitical tensions also attributed for bounce in precious metals with gold and silver finding some strength following big Tuesday selloff that was largely chalked up to technicals.
