Synopsis
European equity markets set to open mostly softer (Italy's FTSE MIB indicated higher) in what is a busy session for earnings/updates in the region.
Among companies in focus, banks Unicredit (UCG.IM), DNB (DNB.NO) and Handelsbanken (SHB.A.SS) posted better than expected earnings, while Barclays (BARC.LN) due to report. Last night, Adidas (ADS.GR) preannounced Q3 with better than expected EBIT and raised guidance. L'Oreal (OR.FP) posted softer than expected LFL Sales Growth for Q3.
European macro data releases out today include inflation data in the UK (Sep CPI/RPI), as well as Ireland Sep PPI. UK inflation data is set to reach a two-year high of 4% for September (London Times). Acceleration in price pressures reflect further rise in food and energy prices and a pickup in core inflation led by services. However, sell-side economists think September inflation should mark the peak and prices tipped to ease gradually thereafter on more favorable base effects and softening in services prices.
Asian equities weaker Wednesday. Hang Seng leading China markets lower amid tech weakness. Japan recouping initial losses. ASX-listed gold producers tracking steep declines in underlying metal. Kospi flat after overcoming early weakness. TSMC weighing on Taiwan's benchmark. S&P 500 futures flat afterhours. Treasuries and JGBs little changed. Dollar a touch lower against yen, steady elsewhere. Gold and silver stabilizing following big Tuesday selloff. Crude extending rally towards one-week high. Bitcoin down sharply from earlier highs.
