FX markets steady with dollar choppy against majors. Crude unchanged. Gold extending overnight declines. Bitcoin at two-week high.

    • US-China trade de-escalation the driver of early week risk-on move with Trump and Xi expected to sign off on agreement negotiated on weekend. Some cautious-leaning press takeaways noting deal only returns two sides back to their fragile trade truce while leaving many questions unanswered. In other trade developments, EU and China to hold talks this week on rare earths curbs and Nexperia. Commerce Secretary Lutnick said Japan's commitment to invest $550B in US would focus on infrastructure such as power and pipelines.

    • In other trade developments, Trump in Japan for talks with PM Takaichi covering trade and defense. Reuters sources said Takaichi to offer shipbuilding cooperation, agreement on rare earths, and purchase commitments involving trucks, soybeans and natural gas. In economic news, South Korea Q3 GDP above expectations, aided by private consumption. RBA Governor Bullock said board weighing whether to cut rates in November to support labor market but downplayed September's weak jobs data.

    • AI secular growth narrative boosted by Qualcomm (QCOM) announcing new AI accelerator chip for data centers, putting it in competition with Nvidia (NVDA). In other AI developments, NXP gave upbeat revenue guidance, citing cyclical recovery. Bloomberg sources said NVDA and Deutsche Telekom (DTE.GR) preparing to announce development of EUR1B data center in Germany. AMD announced $1B partnership with US government for supercomputers powered by AI chips.
