Nov 02 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for mixed start to Monday trade. Futures signaling small opening gain in Hong Kong while ASX opens with mild decline. Japan closed for public holiday. S&P 500 futures advancing after index capped off third straight weekly gain. Australian yield curve steepening, in-line with Treasury weakness on Friday. FX markets steady after dollar index rose to three-month high. Crude strengthening after OPEC+ agreed to pause output hikes in Q1 2026. Gold hovering around $4K. Bitcoin unchanged.

    • Nothing particularly incremental on from weekend trade developments. White House factsheet fleshed out details of Trump-Xi trade truce but no major surprises other than perhaps revelation China to also halt prior rare earths export curbs. Beijing to also halt probes into US semiconductor firms. Underlying frictions remain after Bessent said China has been an unreliable partner. Elsewhere, Japan PM Takaichi said she has no plans to renegotiate Japan's $550B US investment pledge.

    • Central bank meetings continue this week with RBA (Tues) expected to leave cash rate unchanged following hot Q3 CPI. Smattering of data with Asia PMIs (Mon) coming after key manufacturing nations saw factory activity shrink further in September. China RatingDog manufacturing PMI (Mon) forecast to show declaration, in-line with official gauge. China trade, South Korea CPI, Japan wage and household spending data among this week's other data releases. Also shapes as a busy week of Japan earnings with SoftBank, Nintendo, and four major autos reporting.
