Nov 06 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asia equities poised to open lower Friday. Futures in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Australia all traded lower. Japan ADRs were almost all higher while Golden Dragon China index was little changed. US contracts stabilizing from notable cash session losses. Tech leads turned negative again with SOX index down 2.39% and US big tech broadly lower. Treasuries firmer across the curve; yields down ~7-8 bp in the belly. Dollar index down 0.5%. Gold finished little changed. Bitcoin futures down 2.9%, back near $100K. WTI crude ended down 0.3%.

    • Recent volatility largely driven by data headlines. Challenger job cuts jumped to over 150K in October, nearly triple a year-earlier and the most in more than two decades. Market attention defaulting to proprietary data amid the scarcity of official releases due to the US government shutdown. Press noted Challenger series has been a poor predictor. Still, available labor market figures have been mostly negative, including a dip in Revelio Labs nonfarm employment. Yet, with focus turning to US holiday season spending, National Retail Federation issued bullish projections for 3.7%~4.2% growth in retail sales. Macro sentiment and valuation concerns overshadowing earnings beats even in tech. LSEG data shows 83% of S&P 500 Q3 results came in above consensus, and analyst earnings growth projections have been upgraded to 16.8% from 8.0% at the start of the year.

    • Regional developments were on the backburner. On trade, attention mostly on monitoring progress of the US-China truce. Press noted discrepancies over the agreement on rare earths as details of China's pause in export restrictions yet to be verified. USTR soliciting feedback on a one-year pause in shipbuilding-related tariffs as well as port fees on China-made vessels calling at American ports. Concerning Europe, Nexperia uncertainties persist as the company said it expects to resolve the crisis over control, though cannot stand by the quality of products made in China since 13-Oct. China commerce ministry expressed openness to restart talks over the EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment, which was put on hold in 2021.

    • Elsewhere, Japan earnings continue to make up the bulk of headlines. Nissan (7201.JP) Q2 net loss was bigger than FactSet consensus and still omitted FY net income guidance. Maintained global sales target of 3.25M units. Macro calendar brings China trade data with export growth anticipated to have slowed notably in October reflecting unfavorable base effects and diminishing tariff front-loading activity. Japan sees household spending survey for September, though consensus looks for a notable contraction in Q3 GDP with private consumption anemic and inflation remaining the main overhang.
