StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures (2.34%), Hang Seng Futures (1.43%), ASX SPI 200 (1.40%), S&P Futures +0.15%

Nov 13 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for negative start to Friday trade. Futures signaling steep opening losses in Japan and Hong Kong. ASX sharply lower in initial trade. S&P 500 futures nudging higher afterhours following Thursday drawdown. Australian bonds weakening in-line with backup in Treasury yields. Dollar index steady after falling to two-week low. Crude drifting higher while gold continues to fluctuate. Bitcoin near six-month low, gravitating around $100K.

    • Higher rate backdrop an overhang on equity markets with growth stocks hit by rotational outflows. Follows hawkish Fedspeak that led futures to wind back December rate cut odds to less than 50%. US government reopening also doing little to dispel concerns from an extended data vacuum going into December's meeting, leaving policymakers with only partial information on economy. AI sentiment also shaky amid ongoing concerns about valuations and stretched positioning, contributing to momentum unwind.

    • Markets will get fuller read on China's economic performance with October activity data forecast to show deeper contraction in fixed asset investment, and slowdowns in retail sales and industrial production growth. Housing metrics also expected to show ongoing weakness. Semblance of a higher bar for further stimulus following recent PBOC language tweaks that were seen further eroding prospect of rate cuts in 2025. Policymaker confidence in achievability of 2025 growth target also viewed as weakening case for fiscal stimulus.
