Nov 26 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for positive start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling opening gains in Japan and flat start in Hong Kong. ASX higher in initial trade. S&P 500 futures flat following tech-led advance on Wednesday (US closed Thursday for Thanksgiving). Australian bond yields reversing lower following post-CPI backup while New Zealand curve bear flattening following retail sales. Treasuries mixed overnight with some curve flattening. FX markets steady. Crude and gold a touch below earlier highs. Bitcoin back to one-week high.

    • Momentum outperformance continues to characterize this week's price action with Nasdaq now up 4% week-to-date and SOX up 8% for the week. Tech rebound has tracked revival in market-implied odds of a December Fed rate cut to 80% following recent dovish Fedspeak. AI story remains complicated with recent weakness attributed to factors including stretched valuations, ROI uncertainty and extent of debt finance, balanced by earnings growth potential from still-strong outlook for AI demand.

    • In macro developments, New Zealand Q3 retail sales much stronger-than-expected, adding to signs of nascent economic recovery. RBNZ Governor Hawkesby also highlighted signs of recovery in labor market indicators. BOK expected to keep interest rates on hold after inflation firmed by more than expected while growth in household debt remains elevated. Press sources said Takaichi government planning JPY11.6T ($74B) in JGBs to fund FY25 supplementary budget. Bloomberg sources said Pentagon suggested adding Alibaba (9988.HK), Baidu (9888.HK) and BYD (1211.HK) to list of companies assisting PLA.
