Dec 11 ,2025

  • Synopsis:

    • Asia equities poised for a higher open Friday. Futures in Japan, Hong Kong, Australia and South Korea all advanced. Almost all Japan ADRs were higher, while Golden Dragon China index edged lower. US contracts fluctuating after a mostly higher cash session, ending near best levels and Dow, S&P, Russell closing at new highs. Tech leads were softer reflecting reverberations from yesterday's post-close Oracle (ORCL) earnings. SOX index fell 0.75% with US Big Tech broadly weaker and Oracle replicated the selloff in the preceding night session. Treasuries were mixed with a touch of curve steepening. Dollar index was down 0.5%. Gold finished up 2.1%. Bitcoin futures were down 1.1%. WTI crude ended down 1.5%.

    • Rotation was the primary theme. Erosion in AI confidence induced by Oracle results shifted buying interest to sectors such as materials and financials as well as small caps. But Broadcom (AVGO) earnings beat was cited as a late support factor for tech. In secondary Fed takeaways, markets were reassured that rate cuts remained on the cards. Evidence of tech contagion reaching Asia emerged with LSEG data showing regional equities saw the biggest outflow in nearly six years in November, led by Taiwan and South Korea though both have started to rebound in December. Reuters survey found FX traders growing more bullish on most Asian currencies, helped by weakness in the dollar index as a function of Fed rate cuts. CNY longs grew to the highest since late Jan-23. INR the main exception with shorts surging to a 10-month high.

    • China CEWC in focus; President Xi delivered a speech noting main economic targets for 2025 will be achieved. Xinhua readout declared China will continue to implement more proactive fiscal policy while maintaining necessary fiscal deficits. Monetary policy also to remain "moderately loose" and flagged use of various policy tools such as RRR, other policy rates. Signaled domestic demand will remain a priority for next year's economic planning. Elsewhere, tariff story continues as China protested against Mexico's new tariffs of up to 50% on an array of products including cars, auto parts, clothing and steel. Commerce Ministry urged Mexico to reverse action. Japan stimulus bill in the final stages after lower house approved the FY25 supplementary budget yesterday and expected to pass the upper house as early as 16-Dec.
