StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures (0.06%), Hang Seng Futures 0.00%, ASX SPI 200 (0.11%), S&P Futures +0.03%

Dec 28 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for cautious beginning to Monday trade. Futures signaling flat start in Japan with Hong Kong also tracking for muted open following Christmas/Boxing Day holiday. Australia steady in initial trade. S&P 500 futures unchanged. No movement in bond markets after Treasury yields rose slightly on Friday. Dollar steady against majors after rebounding against yen on Friday. Crude pushing higher, gold up marginally while platinum seeing another strong rally. Bitcoin little changed.

    • Not much in way of leads for Asia going into final week of 2025 with volumes expected to remain low through new year. Positive AI sentiment remains key driver of market upside with tech-heavy benchmarks outperforming last week. Commodity rally the other major story following record-breaking surge in precious and industrial metals fueled by geopolitics, Fed rate cut expectations, weak dollar and thin liquidity. Light week on economic calendar with BOJ Summary of Opinions (Mon), FOMC minutes (Wed) and China PMIs (Wed) among notable releases.

    • China ministries concluded various work conferences last week with Ministry of Finance pledging to expand and enhance fiscal spending, focusing on stimulating consumption and boosting investment. Ministry of Industry reiterated pledge to continue anti-involution efforts, upgrade manufacturing, encourage investment in integrated circuits and prod SMEs to embrace AI. Comes as China's industrial sector faces ongoing headwinds from weak demand and deflation with industrial profits sliding at faster pace in November.
