    • Asian markets set for positive start to Monday trade. Futures signaling opening rally in Japan, Hang Seng tracking for opening gains and ASX has gotten off to a positive start. S&P 500 futures unchanged after US markets logged strong first week of 2026. Australian bonds little changed after Treasury curve bear flattened Friday. FX markets steady after dollar index rebounded to one-month high. Crude strengthening amid latest ramp in geopolitical tensions (Iran). Precious and industrial metals also firming. Bitcoin fluctuating around $90K.

    • Busy weekend of geopolitical headlines with press sources saying Trump briefed on potential military options against Iran as protests there turn deadly. While Venezuela tension have cooled, Trump's plans to revive country's oil sector facing CEO skepticism. Elsewhere, Trump said Cuba will be cut off from Venezuelan oil and money and warned its leaders to make a deal. Trump also remains fixated on Greenland with press sources saying military invasion remains an option as Europe races to find an alternative solution.

    • Asian markets off to positive start to 2026 with tech-heavy benchmarks outperforming. AI sentiment remains upbeat with companies and press articles continuing to talk up demand outlook, capex sustainability and pricing upside (memory). Reports Beijing to approve ~NVDA~ H200 purchases as soon as Q1 drove latest move higher among China's major tech platforms. Market also welcoming proliferation of China AI startups with MiniMax the latest company to enjoy strong trading debut last week.

    • Asia economic activity begins to pick up with BOK (Thurs) expected to leave interest rates unchanged, China trade data (Wed) coming after November exports rebounded following Trump-Xi trade truce, and India CPI (Mon) forecast to show inflation rebounded from record low. Australia consumer sentiment (Tues) and household spending (Mon) come on heels of RBA's hawkish hold last month. China credit and monetary data also slated for release over the week. Elsewhere, US CPI inflation (Tues) forecast to show slight uptick with market having largely priced out Fed easing over near-term.
