StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures +2.47%, Hang Seng Futures +0.62%, ASX SPI 200 +1.27%, S&P Futures +0.27%

Feb 02 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for positive start to Tuesday trade. Futures signaling opening rebound in Japan and Hong Kong. Australia higher in early trade. S&P 500 futures gaining after US equities finished higher in Monday trading. Australian bonds weakening ahead of RBA meeting. Comes after Treasury curve bear steepened following manufacturing print. FX markets steady after dollar extended Friday's rebound. Crude fluctuating near lows. Gold and silver staging sharp rebound. Bitcoin continues to move up from Apr-2025 lows.

    • Positive leads for Asia indexes from Monday's US market rebound, where sentiment got a lift from ISM manufacturing hitting highest level since mid-2022, underlining resilient economic backdrop. Precious metals stabilized following Friday's historic drop that was seen mostly as function of extreme overbought conditions rather than a narrative change. Geopolitical tensions eased following reports US in talks with Iran. Trade headlines also leaned in favorable direction after US agreed to cut India tariffs.

    • President Trump announced trade agreement with India that will reduce reciprocal tariff rate to 18% from 25%. White House official said would involve removal of additional 25% tariff over India's purchases of Russian crude. Trump claimed India agreed to stop buying Russian oil, reduce tariffs/non-tariff barriers on US to zero and committed to buy US goods "at a much higher level" on top of more than $500B of energy, tech, ag, coal and other products. Indian rupee strengthened in aftermath, hitting highest against dollar since mid-January.

    • RBA expected to raise cash rate by 25 bp to 3.85%. Updated economic projections expected to show a hawkish tilt featuring upgrades to CPI, GDP (and household consumption), and downgrades to unemployment rate forecasts. Governor Bullock expected to avoid explicit forward guidance and reiterate data-dependent stance while at same time not ruling out further rate hikes. In other economic news, South Korea inflation slowed in-line with expectations though BOK seen maintaining hold stance amid won volatility, financial stability risks.
