Feb 11 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asia equities poised to open mostly firmer Thursday. Futures in South Korea traded sharply higher followed by solid gains in Japan. Australia higher on the open. Hong Kong was marginally lower. Japan ADRs were all higher, Nasdaq Golden Dragon China index fell 0.65%. US futures softer, particularly Nasdaq, after a mixed cash session. Tech leads were mixed with SOX index up a sharp 2.28% though amid patchy strength in US big tech and notable variance. US Treasuries weaker with curve flattening, short end yields up ~6 bp. Dollar index was up 0.1%. Gold rose 1.3%. Bitcoin futures down 1.8%. WTI crude settled up 1.3%.

    • Main price action revolved around the better-than-expected US payrolls data. Despite some debate over net implications from the notable headline surprise vs negative prior revisions, initial positive knee-jerk reactions were negated by the onset of dampened Fed rate cut expectations, taking market-implied odds of a June move below 50%. Yet Warsh nomination for Fed chair seemed to help sustain expectations of easing in H2. Miran later continued to advocate rate cuts for "a variety of reasons." Attention shifts to Friday's CPI data. Corporate earnings tallies continue to look solid with over two-thirds of the S&P 500 having now reported and the growth rate at a better than expected +13%. Not much attention on updated CBO figures showing a notable contraction in the budget deficit YTD, though accompanied by projections for the deficit ratio to climb over the next decade despite some positive contributions from tariff revenues.

    • Regional news light following yesterday's Japan holiday. Some attention on technical indicators pointing to overbought conditions in equities. Notable development has been yen strength in stark contrast to the broadly bearish narrative that was bolstered by LDP's historic election victory. While overnight price action has been discounted due to thinner holiday liquidity, USD/JPY has peaked around the election result and has since fallen substantially. Directional cues so far skewed towards US factors, generally mirroring dollar index and US yields. Threat of FX intervention offers only a soft floor for yen, while there has been no talk of position adjustments among hedge funds. Recent analysis of balance of payments data indicated only limited corporate repatriation of overseas profits. Early BOJ rate hike speculation largely predicated on weaker yen. However, Trump-Takaichi summit in March just after the BOJ meeting pitched as a possible opportunity to reaffirm US pressure for BOJ policy normalization.

    • Elsewhere, news flow also quiet in China as LNY approaches. Few reverberations from yesterday's softer than expected inflation, albeit broader set of macro data around Jan-Feb are generally discounted due to LNY volatility. Still, methodology upgrades including index base year and weightings reshuffle that might have caused notable revisions went under the radar. Policy activity largely limited to PBOC liquidity injections to ensure ample levels over the holiday. With travel traffic projections pointing to another record, local media continue to play up efforts to stimulate holiday spending with programs focused on spending vouchers and subsidies (local governments have reportedly allocated a modest $295M), as well as sales discounts and expanded implementation of the consumer goods trade-in scheme.
