StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures (1.24%), Hang Seng Futures (1.04%), ASX SPI 200 (0.81%), S&P Futures (0.03%)

Feb 12 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for negative start to Friday trade. Futures signaling opening declines of at least 1% in Japan and Hong Kong. ASX lower in initial trade. US contracts gaining afterhours amid AMAT's post-earnings rally. Australian bonds rallying after Treasury curve bull flattened overnight, reversing g Wednesday's NFP-driven backup. FX markets steady after dollar ended little changed on major crosses. Crude and gold stabilizing following earlier selloff while silver extending declines. Bitcoin drifting up from lows.

    • Tech weakness the big story amid renewed focus on AI disruption potential (logistics, CRE the latest to come under threat while MSFT warned about white-collar job losses). Margin headwinds from surging memory prices drove selloff in CSCO. IGV fell 3% amid ongoing bearish sentiment towards software. Semis hit as well with SOX down 2.5%. Volatility spread to other asset classes with gold, silver and Bitcoin all sharply lower, attributed to factors such as continued momentum unwind and CTA selling, and forced selling (gold) to cover equity losses.

    • US CPI the main data point on Friday with consensus looking for a slight pickup in core inflation. Comes after better-than-expected nonfarm payrolls report drew hawkish market takeaways with 50 bp of easing now being priced in over 2026 (vs 57 bp before). Across Asia, China credit data and Taiwan GDP slated for release late in the session. Overnight, India CPI inflation rebounded back inside RBI's 2-6% target band for first time since August, partially reflecting updated base year and CPI basket reweighting.

    • In company news, developments, Applied Materials (AMAT) up 13% afterhours, guided revenue above expectations, amid strong demand for DRAM equipment from AI chip clients. SoftBank (9984.JP) returned to net profit, driven by OpenAI valuation gains. SoftBank's PayPay filed for US IPO, seeking valuation of at least $10B. Australia earnings season continues with Westpac (WBC.AU) net profit above estimates amid residential and institutional lending growth. Cochlear (COH.AU) guided profit to lower end of range amid delay in transitioning customers to new hearing implant system.
