StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures +1.07%, Hang Seng Futures +0.11%, ASX SPI 200 +0.43%, S&P Futures +0.05%

Feb 15 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asia markets set for positive start to Monday trade. Futures signaling opening gains in Japan and Hong Kong. Australia higher in initial trade. Mainland China markets closed for LNY holiday. S&P 500 futures steady following tech-led retreat last week. Australian bonds strengthening, tracking Treasury rally on Friday. FX markets steady with yen near late January highs against dollar. Gold holding above $5K while silver retreating. Crude flat. Bitcoin fluctuating around $70K.

    • Quieter week with China and other markets shut for LNY holidays. RBNZ (Wed) expected to leave official cash rate unchanged. RBA minutes (Tues) will detail reasons for February's rate hike. Japan preliminary Q4 GDP (Mon) forecast to show economy returned to growth. Australian employment (Thurs) forecast to show uptick in unemployment rate. Japan nationwide CPI (Fri) expected to track moderation in Tokyo core inflation. Asia flash PMIs (Fri) and Japan trade data (Wed) also due out. Earnings continue with big name ASX companies reporting, including BHP and Rio Tinto.

    • Market dealing with a negative change in AI sentiment with disruption trade affecting more industries while Mag 7 capex plans continue to draw scrutiny, leaving Nasdaq down 4% month-to-date. That has invited comparisons with Asia, where tech-focused benchmarks in Taiwan and South Korea are up 5% month-to-date thanks to heavier index concentration of AI hardware vs software stocks, and entrenched market positions of chipmaking giants. China the notable laggard in Asia with Hang Seng tech index down 6% month-to-date amid recent pickup in concerns about intensifying price war.
