StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures +0.51%, Hang Seng Futures 0.00%, ASX SPI 200 +0.76%, S&P Futures +0.04%

Feb 18 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for positive start to Thursday trade. Another holiday-affected session with Greater China markets remaining shut for LNY. Futures pointing to opening gains in Japan. ASX nearing record high in initial trade. S&P 500 futures flat following Wednesday's tech-led advance. Australian bond yields up slightly after Treasuries weakened following FOMC minutes. FX markets steady after dollar index neared two-week high. Crude little changed while gold and silver easing from earlier highs. Bitcoin little changed near one-week low.

    • Overnight US market rebound reversed volatility of prior session. Software names stabilized (IGV up 1%) with retail traders buying the dip and AI disruption fears inviting more pushback by those arguing selloff overdone. Commodity rally the other main development with crude spiking amid rising odds of US-Iran conflict, while silver and gold surged. FOMC minutes drew hawkish market takeaways with Treasuries weaker and dollar strengthening, though rate cut odds were little changed upon release.

    • Australian employment data forecast to show step down in headline employment growth and uptick in jobless rate to 4.2% (RBA recently forecast average unemployment rate of 4.3% through 2026). Follows hot December employment print that reinforced signs of persistent labor market tightness and contributed to RBA's decision to hike rates in February. Day's other major focus is sale of Japan 20Y bond, marking first test of investor appetite for longer-dated securities in wake of LDP's landslide election win.
