StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures +1.11%, Hang Seng Futures +0.77%, ASX SPI 200 +0.87%, S&P Futures (0.00%)

Feb 24 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for positive start to Wednesday trade. Futures signaling opening gains in Japan and Hong Kong. Australia higher in initial trade. S&P 500 futures unchanged after rebounding from Monday's tech-led selloff. Australian bonds little changed ahead of CPI. Treasuries mixed overnight with short end yields higher. FX markets steady after yen fell on report PM Takaichi voiced reluctance to BOJ's Ueda about further rate hikes. Crude strengthening following hawkish bent to latest US-Iran headlines. Gold and silver retreating. Bitcoin extending drop towards three-week low.

    • Software names bounced overnight with IGV ending up 2%. Anthropic enterprise AI event unveiled new plugins to help automate work in areas including HR, IB, and design, though underlying message was more about how Anthropic partnering with software names to develop plugins rather than displacing their services. Citrini report that triggered Monday's software selloff also invited pushback against the dire scenarios it outlined. Positive sentiment extended to semis after AMD struck $100B+ compute deal with META. SOX rose 1.5%.

    • Australia January CPI forecast to show slight drop in headline inflation to 3.7% from 3.8%. Underlying inflation also expected to remain elevated above 2-3% target band, supporting hawkish policy outlook with market continuing to price in 70% chance of May rate hike. Messaging from top RBA officials since February's rate hike has been fairly consistent in stressing that inflation is too high and could warrant a further policy response to prevent it from becoming entrenched.
