  • Synopsis:

    • European equity markets closed mostly higher. Fresh record highs for Stoxx 600, FTSE 100 and CAC. Follows positive performance on Wednesday. Travel&leisure, media and financial services were the best performing sectors. Basic resources, telecom and health care lagged.

    • USTR Greer said President Trump will soon sign executive order formalizing 15% tariff "where appropriate." Noted 10% global tariff is currently in effect and suggested White House's latest tariff policy would not leave countries with trade deals worse off.

    • On macro data front, Eurozone economic sentiment weakened in February. Eurozone M3 money supply growth expanded in Jan. Loans to households stood at 3%, unchanged from prior month, while loans to non-financial corporations eased slightly. ECB President Lagarde reiterated data-dependent approach in comments to lawmakers, while also warning on households' perception of inflation. The BRC UK consumer confidence indicator edged up in February like recent improvement in GfK measure. Confidence indicators due from Eurozone later. Meanwhile, UK by-election in Manchester's Gorton and Denton could renew pressure on PM Starmer's leadership.

    • European banks in focus after CEOs of leading names in UK and Europe joined forces to write in the London Times criticizing overly complex regulation and could for looser restrictions. Follows broadly positive earnings season for the sector.

    • On a busy earnings calendar, DACH names kicked off the session, with Allianz (ALV.GR), Munich Re (MUV2.GR), Deutsche Telekom (DTE.GR), Puma (PUM.GR), Clariant (CLN.SW), Kion Group (KGX.GR), Aixtron (AIXA.GR), Adesso (ADN1.GR) and Erste Group Bank (EBS.AV) among few other names. Of note, BaFin disclosed that it has expanded the audit of Gerresheimer (GXI.GR) FY24 financial statements and initiated a review of 1H25 statements, shares closed (14.8%) lower. In France, Schneider Electric (SU.FP), Bouygues (EN.FP), Veolia Environnement )VIE.FP), Arkema (AKE.FP) and AXA (CS.FP) updated investors, whilst ENGIE (ENGI.FP) announced the acquisition of UK Power Networks for an equity value of £10.5B. Elsewhere, Stellantis (STLAM.IM), Rolls-Royce Holdings (RR.LN), Ferrovial (FER.SM), Solaria Energia (SLR.SM), Hikma Pharmaceuticals (HIK.LN), London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG.LN), Eni (ENI.IM), Prysmian (PRY.IM) and Pirelli (PIRC.IM) were among several other names to issue their most recent numbers.

    • In M&A, Reuters reported HSBC (HSBA.LN) has launched sale process for Singapore life insurance product manufacturing business in a deal that could be valued at $1B+ whilst Sky News reported Royal Unibrew (RBREW.DC) is rumoured to be interested in UK's BrewDog.
