    • European equity market futures point to a positive open. Asia equities steeply down for a third day Wednesday as risk-off sentiment dominates again. South Korea's Kospi underperforming for a second day with 8% losses first thing triggering a trading halt but is down again post resumption of business. Nikkei and Topix near 4% lower, Hang Seng sharply down and mainland China boards also losing ground. US futures paring early advances, now suggesting more losses at the open.

    • Iran war a key driver of market sentiment with most of the focus on energy disruptions amid inoperability of Strait of Hormuz, and Iranian attacks against Middle East energy facilities. Trump said US will aid tanker traffic through Hormuz via insurance support and naval escorts, but questions around implementation remain. Qatar LNG plant also remains closed, fueling another sharp rise in LNG prices while playing into broader concerns about a supply shock that stokes inflationary pressures.

    • Back in Europe, UK weekly PMQs begins at 12noon GMT whilst committee topics include supercharging the EV transition at 9:15, GB Energy and the net zero transition at 9:30, growth and proposed regulation of stablecoins in the UK at 10:00, financial inclusion strategy at 14:15 (includes execs from Allianz UK, Lloyds Banking Group, Nationwide) and the cost of energy at 15:00 (includes execs from regulator Ofgem as well as National Energy System Operator (NESO)). EU's Kallas attends the Council of the Baltic Sea States foreign ministerial meeting and delivers 'Churchill Lecture' at the Univ. of Zurich whilst EU's Hoekstra speaks at annual EU Energy Summit. Ukraine and Russia may have another round of talks under the mediation of the US.

    • In central banks, Riksbank publishes at 9:30CET new recommendations to the public on how they can strengthen their readiness to pay even in the event of temporary disruptions, crises and wars. Estonia central bank's Müller panellist at 11:40CET at Kite Flight conf. The OECD will release the Global Debt Report 2026: Sustaining Debt Market Resilience Under Growing Pressure at 13:00 CET, with Bank of France's Villeroy speech at related conf at 13:40. Bundesbank's Balz panellist at 18:00CET at event hosted by the bank. Poland central bank announces interest rate decision at 15:00CET with a (25bps) cut to 3.75% expected. EIB Group Forum speakers include European Council President Costa at 9:30CET and Eurogroup President Pierrakakis at 11:30.

    • On the macro front, Italy, Spain, Sweden Feb services PMI as well as final reads for Eurozone, France, Germany, UK, Switzerland Feb CPI, Italy Jan unemployment rate, Italy Q4 GDP, Eurozone Jan PPI, unemployment rate, Ireland Feb unemployment rate and Austria Q4 final GDP.

    • In earnings, ASM International (ASM.NA) confirmed prelim Q4 earnings and announced a new €150M buyback. In the DACHs region, Bayer (BAYN.GR) reported Q4 core EPS €0.62 (cont ops) vs consensus €0.48 whilst Adidas (ADS.GR) reported Q4 net income from continuing operations €85M vs FactSet €78.2M with share buybacks worth up to €1B in both 2027 and 2028. Symrise (SY1.GR) reported FY EPS €3.67 vs consensus €3.28, Continental (CON.GR) confirmed prelim FY25 earnings as per 21-Jan update and TRATON (8TRA.GR) reported FY revenue €44.05B vs FactSet €43.69B. Also out with earnings are Evonik Industries (EVK.GR), Sixt (SIX2.GR), Bilfinger (GBF.GR) and SCOR (SCR.FP) whilst FinecoBank (FBK.IM) approved its 2026-29 industrial plan at its CMD.
