StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures +0.73%, Hang Seng Futures +0.12%, ASX SPI 200 +0.17%, S&P Futures +0.06%

Mar 10 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for mildly positive start to Wednesday trade Futures signaling opening gains in Japan and Hong Kong. Australia higher in initial trade. S&P 500 futures steady afterhours after US indexes erased gains in Tuesday's session. Australian bonds weaker with curve steepening, mirroring Treasury steepening overnight. FX markets steady after dollar index came off earlier lows. Crude remains higher in post-settlement trade while gold and silver backing off earlier highs. Bitcoin little changed around $70K.

    • Another highly volatile session with crude at one stage sliding below $80 following a deleted X post from US Energy Secretary Wright that navy escorted tanker through Strait of Hormuz. Subsequent rebound back \tabbed to reports Iran began mining Hormuz, leading President Trump to warn of severe consequences (he later claimed US destroyed 10 inactive mine laying boats). Tanker traffic remains ground to a halt and energy facilities continue to be hit with press sources saying UAE's largest refinery was shut following drone strike.

    • Market still no closer to ascertaining timeline for ending Iran war. While President Trump said Monday "war very complete", fighting seems to be ramping up with Tuesday seeing saw heaviest barrage of airstrikes so far. Defense Secretary Hegseth also vowed strikes will continue until Iran is decisively defeated. Iran also rebuffed any notion of ceasefire while vowing to keep Hormuz closed if strikes continue. Ties into thoughts Trump will struggle to find an offramp with two sides digging in.
