Synopsis
European indices are set to open higher as Asia equities trade higher Friday. KOSPI and Shenzhen leading with sharp gains, followed by Taiex. Nikkei also sharply higher though contrasting with slight declines in Topix. Australia/NZ the main laggards.
US equities higher in Thursday trading, ending somewhat off best levels. S&P 500 logged its seventh straight gain; index now a bit more than 2% below its 27-Jan ATH. Big tech was mostly better with AMZN and META the notable gainers.
Geopolitics still front and center amid some concerns about ceasefire durability (Lebanon a sticking point) and limited Strait of Hormuz reopening. However, offramp optimism remains elevated, tensions in the region seem to have simmered down today and US-Iran negotiations still set for Saturday morning in Pakistan.
