Synopsis:
Asian markets set for positive start to Tuesday trade. Futures signaling opening gains in Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. S&P 500 futures steady after US stocks ended at best levels on Monday with software logging best day since Apr-2025. Australian bonds rebounding following Monday's curve flattening. Treasury yields fell 2-4 bp over night. Crude extending pullback in post-settlement trade amid renewed US-Iran diplomacy momentum. Gold and silver lifting from earlier lows. FX markets steady after dollar index neared early March lows. Bitcoin rallied to one-month high.
Markets shook off negative Iran headlines on weekend (failure of negotiations, US naval blockade) with latest reports noting two sides in discussions about second round of talks before expiration of two-week ceasefire. Crude unable to build on early Monday rally amid signals from Trump and Iran officials that diplomatic track remains open despite public displays of defiance, which also appeared to tie into skepticism about durability and enforceability of US naval blockade (China warned against impeding its vessels).
According to Reuters poll, China export growth forecast to have slowed in March from Jan-Feb's 22% surge that was driven in large part by shipments of technology and autos. Import growth also anticipated to have slowed. Credit data showed outstanding loan growth weakened in March amid persistent signs of credit demand softness. Ahead of data's release on Thursday, Reuters poll showed China Q1 GDP growth expected to have strengthened from Q4-2025, leaving 2026 projection at 4.6%.
