Synopsis:
Asian markets set for positive start to Wednesday trade. Japan, Hong Kong and Australian futures all ended higher in offshore session. S&P 500 futures steady afterhours with index on cusp of fresh ATH. Australian bonds extending rally after Treasury yields continued to pull lower. Crude selloff continues with WTI below $90. Gold and silver little changed following earlier strength. FX markets steady after dollar index extended drop to pre-war lows. Bitcoin up to one-month high.
Markets welcoming renewed diplomatic traction on Iran conflict with Trump saying second round of talks could occur in next couple of days. Trump and Vance maintained upbeat tone in talking up prospects of an agreement. While large gaps on nuclear issue remain, press sources say backchannel talks since Saturday have made some progress. US naval blockade in force though no ships from Iranian ports have so far attempted to challenge enforcement, fitting with reports Iran avoiding escalation for now to keep ceasefire alive and allow room for diplomacy.
In other developments, Bloomberg sources said BOJ likely to consider sharply raising CPI forecasts at April MPM due to oil prices. Sources said now not the time to fuel speculation about rate hike though others backed tightening. IMF downgraded global growth forecasts as earlier foreshadowed due to Middle East conflict. South Korea unemployment rate fell in-line with expectations while import inflation hit more than three year high due to surge in oil prices..
