    • European indices ended mostly lower as uncertainty surrounding US-Iran negotiations persists. Tech, energy, telcos and travel/leisure among the main laggards, while banks, media and utilities held up better. Follows last week's downbeat performance, which saw European equities snap a five-week winning streak.

    • Main focus on central bank policy updates from ECB and BoE on Thursday. While no change anticipated, attention on policy communication and rate guidance amid rising risk of stagflation. In other news, UK political backdrop turning more uncertain amid weekend press reports on possible push to remove PM Starmer, who faces a Tuesday vote on a possible referral to the Commons Privileges Committee over the Peter Mandelson appointment. Former deputy PM Rayner has increasingly been tipped in the press as a favorite.

    • On the macro calendar, German GfK consumer confidence data missed expectations (33.3) vs consensus (29.5) and prior revised (28.1) from (28.0). In the UK, the latest April CBI distributive trades survey showed a deterioration in retail conditions (67) versus consensus (48) and the prior reading (52).

    • In M&A news, Apollo funds have acquired Forvia (FRVIA.FP) interiors unit in a deal based on a EV of €1.82B ($2.13B) whilst - in the Nordics - a consortium including Triton has offered to acquire Cint Group (CINT.SS) for SEK5.60/sh in cash. On a busy UK front, Intertek Group (ITRK.LN) rejected a previously disclosed acquisition offer from EQT, E.ON (EOAN.GR) is looking at buying Ovo Energy and local press wrote that Whitbread (WTB.LN) is likely to sell and lease back 20% of its freehold Premier Inn hotels; in France, holder Mundys exercised its right to acquire up to 25.0% of share capital and 29.9% of voting rights of Getlink (GET.FP). On the reporting front, Nordex (NDX1.GR), Galp Energia (GALP.PL), Exosens (EXENS.FP) and Mutares SE & Co KGaA (MUX.GR) updated investors before the open.

    • Looking ahead to tomorrow's EU econ-calendar, key releases will include, amongst others, UK Apr shop price inflation - BRC and Italy Mar PPI.
