StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures (2.24%), Hang Seng Futures (0.85%), ASX SPI 200 (0.79%), S&P Futures +0.28%

Apr 29 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asia markets set for negative start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. US contracts advancing afterhours amid post-earnings gains in tech majors. Australian bonds under pressure after Treasury yield curve bear flattened alongside oil spike. Crude building on gains in post-settlement trade. Gold and silver flat after extending recent declines. Dollar steady after yen breached 160 handle for first time since 2024. Bitcoin down to one-week low.

    • US tech majors reported after market close. META earnings spotlighted attention to larger-than-expected capex raise, component and data center cost pressures. GOOGL's upgraded capex projections viewed favorably amid acceleration in cloud revenue growth. MSFT Azure growth just ahead of consensus, drawing another contrast to larger-than-expected capex upgrade. AMZN cloud revenue growth better than expected with management also highlighting company's ability to leverage strong demand for compute. QCOM said unnamed major hyperscaler to begin using company's data center chips later this year. Also guided turnaround in China smartphone sales.

    • Crude rally a talking point after WTI and Brent surged towards late March highs amid lack of traction on US-Iran negotiations. President Trump publicly rejected Tehran's recent offer and reportedly told aides to prepare for extended naval blockade. Stalemate leaves Strait of Hormuz crude flows throttled, fueling more talk about market complacency surrounding physical crude oil market disruption. Oil rally corresponded with another spike in bond yields as inflation concerns persist, contributing to hawkish repricing of rate paths.

    • China official PMIs forecast to show slowdowns in manufacturing and non-manufacturing activity. RatingDog PMI anticipated to show negligible change in manufacturing growth. Survey will be scrutinized for Iran war impacts on key sub-gauges including new orders, export orders and prices. Recall while March PMIs returned to expansion in first month of war, input costs surged and outpaced sharp rise in output prices. Economists increasingly abandoning calls for rate cuts with leaders signaling comfort in economic trajectory.
