Synopsis:
Asian markets set for positive start to Friday trade. Futures signaling opening gains in Japan and Australia. Hong Kong futures flat. S&P 500 futures steady after index reached another all-time high. Australian bonds little changed after Treasuries ended mixed. Crude drifting higher while gold and silver extending overnight declines. FX markets steady after dollar logged its strongest again vs yen. Bitcoin continues to fluctuate around $80K.
Trump-Xi summit continues following Thursday talks that appeared to deliver some outcomes on trade. Reports noted China to make modest purchase of Boeing aircraft while Trump said Xi agreed to buy US soybeans and energy products. Nothing particularly incremental concerning Iran. US and China opposed to Strait of Hormuz tolls though Trump was vague about Xi's willingness to assist in ending war. Xi's warning about risk of conflict over Taiwan was a media talking point though Rubio said US policy has not changed. US reportedly cleared shipment of H200 chips, though Chinese approval remains pending.
Another night of positive AI updates with CSCO logging biggest rise since 2011 following strong earnings takeaways. CBRS surged 68% in trading debut after pricing above IPO marketed range. Broader US semi space was mixed with SOX little changed and memory lower. Asia AI earnings continued with mostly positive takeaways from Hon Hai Precision (2317.TT) after management talked up revenue growth from AI server demand. SMIC (981.HK) top and bottom line broadly in-line with group striking more optimistic tone amid customer demand and order in hand.
